Want to reduce your Breast Cancer risk?
If you haven’t yet heard, recent studies have shown that women can reduce their risk of developing breast cancer by adopting a healthy lifestyle. Breast cancer is one of the cancers that has a strong genetic link, so for those who might be at a greater risk of developing it later in life, this is big news, as anything you can do to reduce your risk is obviously important.
According to Xanth Kleinig from The Daily Telegraph, “A major review of research by the World Cancer Research Fund blamed alcohol, lack of exercise and being overweight for four out of 10 cases“. 40% of cases!
The WCRF report recommended:
- Being as lean as possible (Breast Cancer was about 15 per cent more common among the overweight than it was for the underweight),
- Exercising at least 30 minutes a day (see http://www.chrisjonesosteo.com.au/?p=193) and
- Limiting daily alcohol to a single standard drink (see http://www.chrisjonesosteo.com.au/?p=139)
The report summarised the findings of 954 studies on cancer, so we can really trust these results. Another interesting finding to come out of the review was “very strong evidence” that breastfeeding your babies was “an important means of reducing the chance of developing breast cancer”.
It’s pretty simple. If Breast Cancer is something you are concerned about, this is solid (and reasonably easy to follow) information on how you can reduce your risk.
