Aging Process reversed!?
Yes, that’s a picture of my Nan and I playing the pokies. I was browsing a bunch of nerdy medical sites the other day trying to make myself seem knowledgeable when I stumbled across an article with the title “Aging process reversed with positive lifestyle changes“. I opened it and had a read and it had merit, so I thought I’d share the contents with you.
There’s these tiny things in your chromosomes called Telomeres, and according to scientists Telomeres control the aging process: “If the telomeres are shortened or damaged, the cells age and die quicker, triggering the aging process.”
So we want our Telomeres to be nice and long. In this study the scientists measured the length of people’s Telomeres, then either let them keep living their normal lifestyle, or make some healthy changes.
These included:
- Adopting a whole foods plant-based diet
- Carrying out moderate exercise
- Adopting stress management techniques, such as meditation and yoga, and
- Adopting greater intimacy and social support.
5 years later they measured the Telomere length again. Below is an excerpt from the results of the study:
Findings of the study revealed that the group who made lifestyle changes showed an increased telomere length of 10%, while the men who did not make any lifestyle changes showed a decreased telomere length of 3%.
