Osteopathy and Sports Injuries

Why is Osteopathy so effective at treating sports injuries?
Osteopaths are ideally suited to the management of sports injuries. Anyone with a sports injury wants to get back on track as soon as possible, and the approach of an Osteopath is designed to promote the most rapid healing response possible. Osteopaths look at the interrelationship between the soft tissues (muscles, tendons, ligaments) as well as the bones and joints they attach to.
By first removing the muscle spasm that comes with an injury and then mobilising the nearby joint, the flexibility, nerve supply and blood flow are returned to normal, which accelerates healing and helps clear inflammation as quickly as possible.
Many elite athletes see an Osteopath to prevent injuries as they find that when the body is not in correct alignment there is an uneven distribution of forces, and this can lead to stress fractures, shin splints, ITB Syndrome, or a muscle overworking, tightening up, and later tearing.
Osteopaths are trained to prescribe the best exercises to restore full range of motion, and then increase the strength and stability of the injured area. The correct rehabilitation program, combined with modifications to your training program helps ensure you return to full strength and minimises the likelihood of a relapse. In short, seeing an Osteopath gives you the best chance of getting back on track so you miss the least amount of training possible.
Sports injuries Osteopaths treat:
Ankle sprains
shin splints
rotator cuff injuries
muscle tears
ligament strains
tendonitis
tennis and golfers elbow
Testimonials from Elite Athletes who have seen Christopher Jones
Larry Achike, Triple Jumper, 2011 UK National Champion, Captain of the UK Athletics Team 2009 World Athletics Championships, two time Olympic Games Finalist.
I’m a Triple Jumper at the highest level which demands high stress loads on my body. So my medical team around me has to be of the highest quality to keep me on track. I got to know Chris through other international athletes about 8 years ago. Since then I have called on his expertise to keep me physically in one piece, so I can keep training at my optimum levels.
Being a Professional Athlete, time is of the essence. So I need quick and effective solutions to minimise loss of training time. What I liked about Chris is his methodical approach. He didn’t just work on the hurt areas. He assesses the symptoms carefully and unearths the true problems. By finding the source of my problems he greatly reduces my recovery time.
Lucky for me I have got to know him outside the clinic and we have developed a great friendship. He’s a gentle, patient, and caring guy with a great sense of humour. Always makes time for his patients and friends. I would say his only weakness is his golf game.
Jeff Hunt, Marathon, 2011 World Athletics Championships, 2010 Commonwealth Games, 2010 World Cross Country Championships, 2009 World Half Marathon Championships, Australian Marathon Record Holder (on debut)
Chris has been my Osteopath since I was junior. He has handled my injuries throughout my career and has been integral in preventing minor injuries from developing into major ones. I would not have been able to do the volume of training I needed to without seeing him for maintenance, and I have never had to miss a race when Chris has been looking after me.
