60 Minutes story on Prolonged Sitting

Last week 60 Minutes ran a story on the perils of prolonged sitting. For a long time I’ve been a firm believer that the length of time you spend sitting is a lot more important then the position you sit in. This is true for musculoskeletal conditions like back pain, neck pain and headaches, but now we’re seeing that this is true for general health conditions like cardiovascular disease, obesity and diabetes. This only takes 12 minutes and is well worth your time. Get up and move Australia!

I’ve seen a couple of articles on this recently and I think it’s pretty interesting. Here’s one. Here’s another. There’s growing support for the idea that Alzheimers is related to diabetes, specifically, Type 2 diabetes, and though they aren’t quite sure how yet, this is actually good news. Hot on the heels of my previous review on the findings that higher intensity exercise training “generated significant reductions in abdominal fat levels” come the findings that it also helps reduce hypertension, lowers cholesterol, and diabetes.
